Essential Skincare Tips

The summer season is here and you are ready to go to the beach, dance at outdoor parties, get a tan, go to a swimming pool, and hundreds of interesting activities. But enjoying the summer doesn’t mean that you have to neglect your skincare. The warm summer weather increases your water loss and makes skin prone to dehydration and your skin also tends to sweat and produce more oil. Here are some of the best tips to ensure you have healthy skin while still enjoying the summer.

Never Forget Sunscreen

Even during the winter and when you are staying indoors, you should wear sunscreen but in summer it becomes even more important because you are usually going to spend a lot of outdoors and directly exposed to UV rays. Unprotected sun exposure can cause dark spots and breakdown the collagen in your skin making the fine lines and wrinkles appear earlier than usual. Make sure to get a sunscreen that is over 30SFP and is water-resistant if you are planning on practicing outdoor activities. It also should be non-greasy so it doesn’t look bad in the hot weather. Remember to reapply it every 2 hours.

Besides wearing sunscreen other ways you can protect yourself from the sun rays, wear sunglasses and hats every time you go out and avoid exposing yourself to direct sun rays between 10 am and 2 pm.

Hydrate Your Skin

Hydrate during the summer season is a must to keep your skin healthy. Incorporate hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid into your routine. This ingredient can hold up to six liters of water, giving a plumping effect to your skin and helping it go through the hot weather. Other hydrating ingredients that do wonders for your skin are glycerin, squalane, and ceramides. You can use them in either face washes, toners, serums, and moisturizing creams. Be sure to drink a lot of water as well.

Use Antioxidants

The UV rays, stress, and harmful habits like smoking can increase the production of free radicals in your skin. Those are molecules that interact with your healthy skin cells and lead to the breakdown of collagen and the early appearance of aging signs. The antioxidants neutralize those free radicals and do wonders for your skin. They give your skin a beautiful healthy glow and can brighten your skin tone. They reduce inflammation and help the skin repair itself. They also stimulate collagen production, preventing and reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Some of the most popular antioxidant ingredients are Vitamin E, Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Resveratrol, Grape Seed, and Green Tea. You can find them in many fruits and vegetables but if you want them to act faster and ensure a better absorption in your skin you need to use them in serums, toners, face oils, or creams.

Exfoliate Your Skin

With all the sweat and oil that your skin produces in summer, it becomes super important to exfoliate it at least once a week. When you exfoliate your skin you get rid of those dead skin cells and it cleans your pores, removing all the oil and dirt that builds up in them. Our favorite choices for exfoliation ingredients are salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or lactic acid if you have sensitive skin.

Light Skincare

Leave the heavy creams for the winter season, with all the sweat and humidity of the summer season your skin doesn’t require multiple products or heavy ingredients and textures. Keep your routine simple, use a foam cleaning that gets rid of the excess oil, a toner with antioxidants, a hydrating serum, light moisturizing cream, and sunscreen. Thicker products may leave clogged pores and pimples.

Don’t Neglect Your Lips and Eyes

Your lips also require care so find a lip balm that contains nourishing ingredients such as cocoa butter, coconut oil, grape seed oil, and glycerin, and make sure it contains sunscreen as well. The eye area is another that is frequently overlooked when considering summer skincare, wear sunglasses every time you expose yourself to the sun and apply a lightweight eye cream with antioxidants and hydrating ingredients at night.

Use a Mist

Do you usually feel the need to freshen your face from the hot weather and cool you down? Then a facial mist is going to be your best friend. Take it with you when you go outdoors and spray it any time you feel the need to hydrate your face.
